Your body is the temple of God

The second law of thermodynamics is Entropy.

In simple terms, things break down, slow down and burn out over time.

You see this in a cup of hot coffee… it will not stay hot.

You see this in a new battery, in time, even if not used will lose its charge and even corrode.

There is a principle of entropy in our lived experience as believers.  You may experience a spiritual renewal, however that renewal, no matter how dynamic, will cool and lose its effect over time.

The picture above speaks to a reality, no matter how glorious any physical thing is, in time it will cease to be strong, growing and thriving and devolve and dissolve without a purposeful effort and investment in time and resources to maintain a thing.

Paul seems to be pointing out what it seems the church had forgotten.

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

The solution?

Embracing the reality that if you are going to be sanctified, holy, and spiritually alive will require an acknowledgment of the reality of entropy in our walk of faith and devotion to God.

Paul declared his own intent in his pursuit of Jesus Christ.

Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:12-14
