“So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.” Jonah 1:6
This morning, as I considered the world’s circumstances, the melody of an old song came to mind. The lyrics seem to be more relevant right now than when the writer first penned the words.
If all that has happened over the past two years has not shaken you awake spiritually, let me sound the alarm. If it were possible, I would grasp your shoulders and shake you while begging you, “Wake Up.”
I am troubled more at the apathy of the believer than I am at the circumstances in our world.
If this has not made you wake up, what will wake you up?
Imagine while sleeping having a nightmare only to awake and find you’re on a train headed toward a bridge that is out, only to find a bomb ticking above your head, and then you look down and see your battery is dead on your iPhone. Of all of the dangers, you start trying to find a plug to charge your phone.
How has it happened that we are bothered by the inconsequential things while ambivalent about the urgent dangers around us?
If you consider yourself a believer, wake up.
Sadly, we like the disciples of Jesus cannot, would not, will not pray, so we sleep.
Listen to Jesus to the slumbering disciples.
“Then cometh he (JESUS) to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, ” Matthew 26:45
Troublesome times are here, filling men’s hearts with fear
Freedom we all hold dear now is at stake
Humbling your hearts to God saves from the chastening rod
Seek the way pilgrims trod, Christians awake
Jesus is coming soon, morning or night or noon
Many will meet their doom, trumpets will sound
All of the dead shall rise, righteous meet in the skies
Going where no one dies, heavenward bound
Troubles will soon be o’er, happy forevermore
When we meet on that shore, free from all care
Rising up in the sky, telling this world goodbye
Homeward we then shall fly, glory to share
Jesus is coming soon, morning or night or noon
Many will meet their doom, trumpets will sound
All of the dead shall rise, righteous meet in the skies
Going where no one dies, heavenward bound
Jesus is coming soon, morning or night or noon
Many will meet their doom, trumpets will sound
All of the dead shall rise, righteous meet in the skies
Going where no one dies, heavenward bound
Heavenward bound, heavenward bound
