Sealed and Branded

“sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,”

I have always seen this word as defined in a similar meaning to Noah pitching the ark, a waterproofing of sorts, to keep what is inside safe from what is outside.

In a conversation recently, it was related to me that the original greek word is different in meaning.

Though I believe the Holy Spirit protects and preserves us, the actual meaning really has blessed me as I reflected on it.

sphragizō –

in order to mark a person or a thing

to set a mark upon by the impress of a seal or a stamp

Sealed.

In my mind’s eye, I see the image of a letter sealed with a signet in wax.

My past is sealed, inaccessible to the darkness.

My present is protected and under guard from the plans of wickedness.

The highest power determines my future. “Let your kingdom come, and your will be done.” Evil designs cannot overturn it. I aim to stay connected to Jesus, and I trust his plan will be fulfilled.

There is also the impression that we are marked as an identity as if we are branded.

Branded

Our ownership of God is a forever mark. Even if we wander off and are lost, there is an indelible mark that we were once HIS, and that impression will forever be a part of our story.

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Ephesians 4:30

What a horrifying idea. To be washed and sanctified and still be lost and separated for eternity.

Jesus and His parables reiterate that many will be given every opportunity and invitation but will choose to do otherwise.

I want to embrace the sealing qualities and blessings of this seal that I have received and receive through the Holy Spirit’s virtue through my continued obedient faith.

In Jesus Name!
